Meet our member of the month for May, Jess!

She has been part of our community for a short period, but she has been committed and focused since day one and we all can notice a huge difference in her progress.

We asked her a few questions about her journey so far and here are her answers:

Q: How long have you been a member at Proficient?
A:  Since January this year. It was a New Years Resolution that I've managed to keep.

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a Proficient athlete?
A: Ha, being called an athlete! I love that all levels of fitness are supported and the coaches really offer personal advice and training. I really felt welcomed and like part of the community very early on.

Q: How would you describe the community at Proficient? 
A:  Very supportive. Everyone is there to work hard but they're all up for a laugh too. 

Q: What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?
A:  Don't be! There's no mirrors for one thing.  People really are just wanting to do their workouts and they don't mind if you're huffing and puffing or sweating all over the place! They'll support you getting your thing done too.

Q: Favourite music to sweat to?
A: Ministry of Sound or similar and something with a strong beat. I like knowing the words to the songs I'm listening to. Even if I don't have the energy to sing along, I  am on the inside!

Q: Least favourite music to sweat to?
A: Anything too slow or country.

Q: Favourite movement/workout?
A: Rowing or deadlifts maybe. No one would believe me if I said running but I do enjoy it- I think it's because I've surprised myself at being able to do it.

Q: Least favourite movement/workout?
A:  Pull ups, push ups, any jerk movements. Basically anything that requires me to lift above my shoulders or my own bodyweight!

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient Community that inspires and motivates you to be better? 
A: I've loved working out with Sue and Nadine. They're dedicated to the time they carve out for themselves and I find that inspiring. The coaches have all been very encouraging but I must thank especially Coach B for her dedication and keeping me going. Also, I love the little pushes Caleb gives me out on the road- without fail he tells me every time "You've got this mate."

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient community that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!
A: I'm too busy coming for myself to worry about anyone else!

Q: Favourite post-workout meal?
A:  I always do a 6am class so I head home straight after for a smoothie. It's either frozen mango or banana with avocado, spinach and coconut water.

Q: What fitness-related goals do you have for 2024?
A: My first goal was to lose a bit of weight to feel comfortable in bathers on a girly holiday in Phuket. I did that but undid a lot of my hard work on the holiday enjoying too many cocktails that I need to reset and get motivated again. I'd love to lose and keep off 20kilos over the next year and a half.
