Meet our member of the month for April, Shaun!

He is one of our early risers and part of our 6am crew! Give him a heavy barbell and he is a happy man!

He has been party of the Proficient family for just over 12 months now, take a moment to read his journey so far.

Q: How long have you been a member at Proficient?
A: A little over 1 year 

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a Proficient athlete?
A: Enjoy the community and the banter, also the push of those around me to go a little harder in a work out when I need a push

Q: How would you describe the community at Proficient? 
A: Approachable and encouraging

Q: What advice do you have for someone who is intimidated by group fitness?
A: Everything is scalable to suit your ability and your goals, and all levels are welcomed 

Q: Favourite music to sweat to?
A: Hard Rock

Q: Least favourite music to sweat to?
A: HipHop or 90s RnB, although it helps with the mental training. 

Q: Favourite movement/workout?
A: I like anything heavy and explosive; cleans, snatches, thrusters, wallballs

Q: Least favourite movement/workout?
A:  Pairing anything with running

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient Community that inspires and motivates you to be better? 
A:  So many of the 6am crew show me what’s possible and push me in different ways, Matt with his toes to bar, Maria smashing burpees, Sobah’s ability to push through any rest break, Caleb’s attitude to always push harder, Alex’s ability to drink/shop/chat during a workout, however I’m always trying to keep up with Gary.

Q: Is there a member of the Proficient community that needs to know you are coming for them? Feel free to put them on notice!
A:  Always aiming for the big dog, I have my eyes on taking on Jesty at quarter finals 2025, it’s a lofty goal though.

Q: Favourite post-workout meal?
A:   I usually smash a banana, blueberry and cocoa smoothie post work out with creatine and some eggs for extra protein

Q: What fitness-related goals do you have for 2024?
A:  I want to get my muscle ups again, and figure out how to handstand, but generally improve strength and fitness to get to quarter finals (masters 40+) for 2025.
